JOIN 150 OF YOUR NEIGHBORS IN FRIENDS OF HARWICH BEACHES
Friends of Harwich Beaches, Inc. (FHB) is a non-profit group of over 150 Harwich residents dedicated to public access, enjoyment, and environmental protection of the beaches of Harwich.
Its first goal is to keep the Bay View Beach, between Bank Street and Merkel beaches, open for use by the public. Seven new homeowners on Davis Lane are trying to privatize Bay View Beach, despite the following facts:
The public has used and enjoyed the Bay View Beach for the past century.
Since 1918, the Town of Harwich has owned a public path in the center of Bay View Beach, with full access to the beach and the ocean.
An independent engineering report for the Town demonstrates over $5 million in local, state and federal funding built a public jetty creating over 400 feet of accreted Commonwealth tidelands, necessary for navigation into and out of Wychmere Harbor. No jetty, no harbor.
Land Court has given standing to the Commonwealth, the Town of Harwich and FHB members to object to Davis Lane owners’ moves to privatize the beach.
If the Davis Lane owners get their way, they would fence off the beach from the public and all their neighbors, including the family of the late Speaker Tip O’Neill.
All Cape Cod newspapers have written and/or editorialized in support of public access to Bay View Beach. (Cape Cod Times editorial appears on other side.)
PLEASE JOIN AND SUPPORT FRIENDS OF HARWICH BEACHES. START BY CO-SIGNING AN APPEAL TO THE HARWICH SELECTMEN AND ATTORNEY GENERAL TO DEFEND PUBLIC BEACH RIGHTS AGAINST THE PRIVATIZERS.
